Anti Aging Anti Acne Skincare Routine
Are you looking to get clear, glowing and wrinkle free skin?
Do you struggle with both breakouts and fine lines?
Finding products that do BOTH can be ultra challenging!
Many anti aging products are super hydrating and flare up breakouts…
Many anti acne products can be harsh and make wrinkles look worse, as they dry out skin
When dermalogica asked me to test out some products, I was thrilled. If you’ve been following me on instagram- you know I geek out on all things Deceim. Aaaannnd you know I beat my face with cosplay makeup then workout in it- which I do not recommend as it really does take a toll on my pores!
Also the weather in NYC is changing and getting more humid- hence more zits.
Keep in mind everyone is unique and what works for my face may not work for yours. For reference I tend to run on the oily side in my t zone and dryer on my cheeks.
Heres how I changed my routine up and fight both of these age old skin concerns.
My morning and evening routines are COMPLETELY different.
The products I use at night need to take off my cake face of makeup. Some products with acids aren’t recommended for day use. The sun can magnify the effects and over dry or burn your skin.
My friends joke about my 17 zillion step skin care routine…
The extra time I take to care for my face has really paid off. I am scared of needles so botox and fillers are out for me, and honestly I’m not into the frozen or overly puffed look.
Even if I was, its way out of my budget and I’d rather spend that cash on vacations or clothes.
Morning Routine
Cleanser
I was my face, neck and back with from Clearing Skin Wash from Dermalogica. I sweat quite a bit through my days teaching and I breakout on these sport way too often. This one is designed to clear up your pores and reduce dullness. It’s made to be both clearing fight wrinkles
I try not to wash my face in ht water- just warm does the trick as too hot can dry put pores.
Serums
Niacinimide
If you're fighting acne this os the ONE product that made a HUGE difference for me. It will not over dry your skin like benzoyl peroxide- it does help keep oil at bay and I’ve found that it really helps my skin glow brighter
This one is so key in summer as it prevents your skin from becoming greasier than those beach French fries in the sun.
Peptides are the key ingredient with Sub Q Skin from Hylamide.
Hylamide is under the ordinary parent company but the serums are more advanced and the prices bump up accordingly.
This keeps skins moisture levels balanced and helps with fine lines and texture.
My skin is looking plumper and smoother since adding this back in over a vitamin c serum. Peptides and vitamin c are not friends, and in fact peptides do not mix well with any acids. Make sure to look them up on Deceim’s site- they are very detailed about how you should mix products
If this ones a bit out of your budget check out The Ordinarys’ Buffet- which gets rave reviews
Moisturizer
Rose Hip Oil
If I could pour this stuff on my LIFE if I could. As a kid I was told that oils were bad for acne- and this isn’t at all true.
Rose-hip oil is known as a dry oil and if you use it in moderate amounts it will actually restore the moisture balance of your skin and in turn help your skin stop over producing it.
Eye Cream
Crows feet will not be welcomed! I have been using Viola Skin’s Ant Aging Eye Cream both day and night. It also contains peptides and I also love Hylamide’s SubQ Eyes.
Sunscreen
Watch the video as I actually mix this in with the rose hip oil.. I’m using The Ordinary’s Mineral UV Filter 30SPF
Because this is mineral based and super effective at blocking the suns rays - it can also be a bit chalky. I’m pretty fair skinned and I notice this so I mix a TINY bit in with my rose hip oil to lessen the tackiness of it. This may not be a good match for you if you have a darker complexion.
If there’s one thing id say to my younger self - its stay OUT of the sun, I regret the tanning I did on my teens and twenties.
Nighttime Routine
I go for a Double Cleanse method here- which is originated in Korea. You cleanse twice- with an oil based cleanser and followed up with a foamier cleanser. It is meant to remove everything- makeup, SPF, grease and pollution.
Cleansers
I start with Dermalogica’s oil based PreCleanse.
You can see in the video below that I had a whole lotta makeup goin on and this, combined with a microfiber makeup removing cloth swipes it off
Next up I use Cerave Foaming Cleanser for oily skin. This one won’t irritate your skin and has ceramides are the fats that make up your skin and will help you retain moisture. It even contains niacinimide so I don’t have to double up with the one I use in the morning
Masque
2- 3 times a week I use an Sebum Clearing Masque from Dermalogica. This one really doesn’t over dry my skin and I find masques one of the best ways to get the redness and pus out when youre blemishes start popping.
This is so key as the summer heats up and the humidity here in the north east gets unbearably high.
Once per week I use The Ordinary AHA BHA peel- which is a powerful exfoliant. It really helps me glow up and smooth out. This one is not for the faint of heart- its bright red and highly concentrated so follow the directions and precautions carefully. It is a powerful acid and may not work well if you have super sensitive skin
Serum
Dermalogica Age Bright has been the newest addition to m routine and it feel like a dry oil base. It contains salicylic acid, micinimide and retinol- which is a powerful trifecta yet does not at all dry my skin
Moisturizers
My rose hip oil is mixed with The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors. At night I need to double up and make my beauty sleep soften any dryness. One of the main ingredient is Hyalouric acid which is naturally found in your body and is used in many medical treatments to improve bone health and wound healing.
Thank you to dermalogica for providing me with the products.
